Pal Pad mechanics

The Pal Pad is a key item that you get from Teala at the Wi-Fi Club in the basement of the Pokémon Center after obtaining at least your first Gym badge (Coal Badge) in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
The Pal Pad has the function of being able to to register the Friend Code (12 digit number) and the name of someone that you would like to be your friend. You can obtain your own Friend Code by signing onto the Wi-fi Club for the first time. You can manually input Friend Codes into the Pal Pad or exchange Friend Codes with other players in the Union Room (upstairs of the Pokémon Center).
You can only battle and trade Pokémon with friends that are registered in the Pal Pad over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
For instance, my game name is Oak and my Friend Code is 4811-5696-8804.
